I use ChatGPT voice on dog walks to collect and think through ideas. I even use an AI receptionist voice at SwiftRoot to filter out spam calls. There are useful places for this technology.

But using AI voice for everything? I'd discourage you from going down that road.

Two situations give me pause: interviews and sales. In both, I'd want to think about the human connection before deciding to hand the conversation to a voice agent.

Sit down with the person you're interviewing

An interview is a chance to understand who somebody is from a human perspective. Wouldn't you want to sit down with the person you're considering?

That's why I'd discourage using voice agents to conduct interviews. The conversation is about the people. I want a human involved in getting to know the person on the other side.

Think about your first sales call

I get the appeal of AI voice for sales. You want more sales, and you want to contact more people.

But when you send voice agents out to call everybody possible, you're essentially building robocallers. Is that really the first impression you want your business to make?

Before handing that first sales conversation to a voice agent, consider whether that moment needs a human connection. If it does, I'd keep a human in the loop.
